1st Seedling
The pattypan squash is the winner! It was the first seedling to germinate out of all the seeds I started for the Fall garden. It’s very cute and I’m very happy!

Summer Squash For Fall
Today I started seeds for the Fall Garden. I mostly planted Winter Squash but thought I would give the Pattypan a try too…I love the way they look with their ruffled edges!

This is a “summer” squash with a soft skin similar to zucchini. It’s said to be mild flavored with mature fruit at 4-6″ around. It is a bush-type plant. The package suggests it be picked early and often so that the plant will continue to produce. Ready for harvest when blossom falls from end of fruit and you can easily dent with your thumbnail. This packet of seeds was purchased this week. (FerryMorseSeeds-ArchiesGardenland-$1.79/package).

YES!

I have yellow crookneck squash. I planted these off by themselves near the trellis thinking they were cucumbers. At one point I even thought they had died and had written them off as a loss…but I spotted something yellow from the window a couple of weeks ago and when I went out to see what it was I discovered tiny little yellow blooms on the vine. Now I officially have squash for the first time! They are still a little small and it looks like the vine is trying to grow more blooms. I may decide to pick this one soon even though it is only about four inches long…it looks yummy!

Mystery Veggies
I think I accidentally grabbed some kind of squash or zucchini plant when I wanted to get cucumbers…they weren’t labeled very good and people had shuffled them around at the store. At any rate I plopped them in the ground today….we’ll see what happens.
