![]() This year there were a few of these webs on the branches of the pecan tree in the back yard. Inside each one are these tiny little furry white worms. the slowly eat the foliage off the tree. you can see in the photo below that the leaves have been stripped. the veins are the only thing left behind and they dry up and fall into the web. These worms can strip a branch of foliage fast. ![]() If
you don't cut the branch off and destroy the web, then the worms can
work their way up eventually covering the entire tree canopy and
causing the tree to die once all the leaves have been stripped. I cut
the whole tree branch off being careful not to drop any of it or let it
touch the ground. I then put it in a plastic bag, sealed it good and
threw them away. Don't let them get in the grass or blow away
onto any other foliage. If they are on a high branch that you can't cut
down, get a long pole and try to break the web up...this makes the
worms vulnerable to the birds who can get in and eat them once the web
has been broken.
