Bannana Peppers ::

06.13.08 ::Hot Spot
I
planted a couple of these this year. I wanted to plant more, but I
couldn't find any more starts at the nursery. They are putting out
about two peppers every week and growing what seems a little slower
than in the past seasons. Maybe they are just getting started, it
is only just now really warming up into the high 90's.
The problem this year is that I also planted jalapeños a few beds away and it made these mild banana peppers hot! I can barely eat them. I knew there was a possibility of this happening, but I thought the plants were far enough away from each other that it would be ok. I was wrong. So now I know, everything is an experiment. Oh well, I will just have to give them all away this year to those that aren't as wimpy as me.

These were planted in
the Spring of 2004.
I had a good crop of them throughout the summer and into the fall.
It was hard to leave them on the vine to get big since we wanted to
pick them and eat them. some were picked earlier than others
since they were so yummy! Banana peppers are not hot; they
have a mild sweet flavor. I will plant more of them this year since
they were so easy to grow with little problems.
