I received this small gulf Brazos Penstemon as a free gift from Madrone Nursery when I ordered my Hinkley Columbine. The plants were a little wilted after their trasport in the mail, but I potted the plant when it arrived and it has done well. After trimming back some of the dead leaves, it has grown slowly and steadily and is almost ready to flower.

It is still in the pot near the porch steps where it gets filtered sun. I am hesitant to plant it out in the garden because I don't want it to die. I know it is a native perrenial, but I am not sure if it is sturdy enough to stay in the ground over winter, or if I should keep it potted and plant it out next spring
with more penstemon plants.

Decisions, decisions...

:: Characteristics ::
Hardy native found along the Coastal regions of Texas.  Good for clay soil  areas with poor drainage. It likes partial shade but does well in sunny spots with regular irrigation.

After the blooming season it returns to a small rosette of leaves low to the ground that remain green year round. It naturalises easily.
