Planted

These are both in the ground now. The one I planted in the fall is still alive but growing slow...it hasn't gotten much larger. It gets a lot of shade and only dapple sun. It is on the north side of the driveway.

The one I left in the pot over the winter put out new leaves and got a little bigger. I planted it in the ground the first week of April (pictured). It's also doing ok, but the new growth seems to have also slowed down. It gets more sun than the other one and is planted in the front yard near the street.

Updates later as these bushes mature...

Surviving The Winter

Purchased at the Botanic Garden plant sale on October 11th. I didn't know much about this plant but some of my fellow Master Gardeners advised me it would work in my shady spots so I bought two of them.

I am having planting anxiety though. This happens to me often. I get a new plant and a panic attack sets in...where do I put it?!  I hope the spot I picked works. I read that it might take a couple of years before it gets big enough to bloom. Crossing my fingers that it survives.

:: Location ::

 :: Propagation ::
If you need to prune, do so before August!
If you prune after August, you will have no blooms the following year. This plant sets it's buds for the following year in August, September or October.

After the leaves turn a brilliant red in the fall, they will fall off and leave the shrub naked, so planting it among evergreen plants is recommended.

"Snowflake" has multiple florets with double petals.

Apply fertilizer in summer.
