:: Catalpa Tree ::

The catalpa tree has been loosing leaves since the end of June. It is almost completely bare now and it isn't even fall yet. The extremely hot temperatures and drought are really giving the plants hell. I don't think the tree is dead, but it is close. I will have to wait until spring to know for sure. Meanwhile, I have leaves to rake in the middle of summer! I will probably let them stay on the ground until October. No way I am going to mulch and rake leaves in triple digit heat!

:: 06.28.05 ::

This old catalpa tree sits at the northeast corner of the property by the driveway. In late spring it blooms with these lacy little white flowers. It's pretty when it blooms, too bad the flowers are only around for a couple of weeks. It is a nice shade tree with big green leaves. It gets these very long spiky beans that hang down the branches and eventually cover the ground.
