Plants!
My mom picked up
some blackberry "bushes" when she went to visit my grandmother. She
bought me two thornless varieties called Arapaho and Ouichita, which
is a new cultivar from the University of Arkansas. I will post
pictures of them as soon as we get them planted and they start
producing.

Black
Beauty
![]() It
is me against the birds to see who can get the ripe berries first! The blackberry vine multiplied with
more runners this year and they are putting out a good supply of berries. They are
sweet and yummy. I am really keeping my eye on them each
day to pluck them off
before the birds make them
disappear.
I
should probably cover them with a net, but they are scattered out among
the Iris leaves instead of being in one clump or area. I need to
dig them up, root some cuttings and plant them all in one spot for next
year so that I have more control over them. They also need a trellis to
get them off the ground. Maybe next year I will get that
accomplished and add a few strawberries also!

. . . . . . :: 03.18.05 :: ![]() ![]() These photos are from 2004. These blackberry vines have been on this property since I was a small girl. I remember we once had lots of them, but now there is just this one! It would have gone unnoticed and possibly have been destroyed if it had not been for this small white bloom that I noticed struggling to survive. At first I thought the thorny vine was just another invasive plant like the smilac that grow everywhere around the property. But I left it alone since it had a bloom on it and then I was so happy to see that it was a blackberry vine left over from years ago! I
am crossing my fingers to see if the vine comes back in 2005. I am not
sure
at this point how to get it to multiply. Updates to follow as I find
out more
information.
